How a Balloon Screen Printing Machine Works
A balloon screen printing machine can print a variety of different designs on dozens or hundreds of balloons at a time, making it an ideal option for businesses that need a reliable printing method to help them get the job done quickly. However, it is important to know how many balloons the printer can handle per hour before investing in one to make sure it will be able to keep up with production demands.
The first step in using a balloon screen printing machine is to prepare the screen or stencil that will be used for the prints. This involves coating the mesh screen with a light-reactive emulsion layer. The emulsion is then exposed to light, which hardens the areas covered by the design and creates an open path for the ink to pass through. The screen is then washed to remove the emulsion and become usable again.
Once the screen has been washed and dried, it is then ready to be used for the actual printing process. The garment or item to be printed is laid flat on top of the screen, and then a squeegee is used to press the ink over the screen, transferring a coloured imprint of the stencil design onto the item being printed. The screen is then rinsed again to remove any excess ink before it is reused for the next print run.
If the printer is working with multiple colours, then a separate screen will need to be used for each colour in the final product. This can be a time-consuming and complicated process, as the printer will need to carefully align each stencil with the correct screen in order for the colours to line up correctly. For this reason, it is often easier to use an automated rotary carousel printer for multi-colour prints.
In comparison, direct to garment (DTG) digital printing uses a specialised fabric printer that is similar to an inkjet computer printer to transfer the desired design directly to the textile, without needing a separate stencil for each colour. This can save a lot of time and effort, especially when producing a large number of identical items. However, the quality of the prints produced isn’t as high as those from a screen printing machine.
In addition, while digital printing is much faster than screen printing, it’s important to note that it’s not as accurate and can’t produce very detailed or photographic designs, which are difficult to replicate on a fabric surface. The best choice for printing on items such as bags, hats and footwear is therefore still going to be screen printing, as it can provide the highest level of detail and accuracy possible. In the long run, it is also the most cost-effective printing method, particularly if the same design is required to be printed at high volume. It is also easy to set up and use, especially if the equipment required has been well-maintained and regularly serviced.
